Radon In Basements

Radon is an odorless gas from decomposing uranium that can enter the lower levels of your home, especially your basement. Radon will enter through wall and floor cracks, sump pits, and open backed drainage systems. According to the EPA - 21,000 deaths are related to overexposure to high radon levels.

I recommend all homeowners have there homes tested for radon every two years. Recently I had the pleasure of meeting 5 energetic college students from Olin College in Needham Massachusetts who decide to make a difference and started a student company called UltraViolet Environmental Services. These students donated their profits to charity. I am happy to say that they have decided to continue the company and expand on their service area.

The Healthy Home Basement Finishing network is offering free radon testing before and after any of its installations. This research will help prove that a closed drainage system will help control radon from entering a basement. Visit
www.homebasementfinishing.com for more information on properly preparing your basement before you finish it.

Steve I think I'm remembering you from one of my visits to "Larry Janesky World" years ago- yes? In any case I have been on my own for about 10 years in basements and the last 3 years in radon as well. I just minutes ago got and read your article in the Radon Reporter and I am thrilled to know that I'm not alone with my concerns. I am excited to learn more from you about your methods and product choices so as to continue our cause. I began my career in bsmnt. drainage with Complete Basement Systems- Mankato, MN, after 5 years, I'd had "enough" and went out on my own. I regret not learning more about radon sooner but now I am working both ends together. When you have time, I would enjoy a discussion with you. I can be reached via E-mail or any time by cell phone at 507-351-2413. Thanks Steve and keep up the good work!-Andrew Kelley
